About Me

My photo
I'm 57 years old, working full time, wife, mother and grand mother, wishing that I wasn't working full time! I love and enjoy our children and grandchildren, our dogs and cat, our garden and allotment. I love crafts - knitting, sewing, crocheting, patchwork and restoring old furniture. I love to go to country auctions and love thinking that I've got my self a bargain!

Shopping anyone?.........

Afternoon All,

I'm having a quick 5 minutes before I have to wake hubby up from his afternoon nap to go and fetch Winnie from the vets. She's been neutered today and she's having her chip put in whist she's still asleep from the operation.

We've always had our dogs identity chips done this way when they are 6 months old and when they're asleep from the anaesthetic because when we took Flossie in for her first injections, the vet offered to do it there and then and because we didn't know how big the needle was we agreed. Flossie really yelped loudly when it went in and it made both of us feel ill - it was awful and we said we'd never put another dog through that again. We stepped out of the vets that day and we were both shaking and feeling sick. (You can tell that we're daft with our girls can't you!). So since that day, Tillie, Daisy and now Winnie has had it done under the anaesthetic.

I've been Christmas shopping today - it seemed more like a Saturday in town rather than a Monday but I've got all that I wanted. I've just got to pop to Asda tomorrow and I've come back and ordered some books and dvd's from Amazon. So after tomorrow what we haven't got now, we'll do without.

The older I get the less I enjoy shopping (I never enjoyed it that much when I was younger) and I can fully understand the concept of on line shopping - it's so much easier. I used to work with someone whose entire life centred around where she was going clothes shopping that day or coming weekend - I could never get my head round the fascination for it and then I used to think, well where does she put it all.....after all a house can only hold so much - I know that they re-mortgaged and paid off all their debts (credit cards) a few years ago. But I bet that they are maxed out on the cards again - I suppose it's everyone to their own - I can understand garden centre shopping but when there is a space to fill in the garden and wool (yarn) shopping - but again there is only so much, that you can realistically buy.

I suppose that I go a little over the top for Christmas with my Grandchildren but I don't give pocket money throughout the year so they get a little extra at Christmas and when times have been tight for my Son and Daughter, I know that my contribution has helped to bulk out their presents for the children and lets face it Christmas is for children and I get lots of pleasure from buying them clothes and toys.

I remember when my children were little we had a year where we didn't have much money and my Nan and Great Aunt Winnie (you can see who we named the dog after can't you?!)  turned up with Christmas bags full of toys and clothes for my 3 children and I was so grateful - when we put all the presents around the tree that Christmas Eve, it did really look like Santa had been and my 3 were none the wiser for knowing that times were hard that year.

Oh well nearly time to go and fetch our little girl back home - How are you doing with the Christmas presents shopping are you nearly there yet or are you all ready and your presents are wrapped?

Speak again soon

  1. I like to spread my Christmas shopping right through the year. I carry last year's present list in my purse and try to source charity shop and crafted gifts for my family. This year's big secret is that I've managed to find a really rare coffee set for my sister in the Sue Rider shop in Welshpool. It matches a tea set that she inherited from our Grandma and I know that she's going to love it to bits! Jx

  2. Hi Jan
That's a good idea for buying throughout the year - I've saved for Christmas throughout the year but didn't have chance to go shopping when I was working - I will try to be more organised next year and do like you and buy throughout the year. That's a lovely thoughtful gift for your sister - I know Welshpool quite well - my Mom lives close to there and we used to have a caravan at Church Stoke near to Montgomery xxx

  3. Hope Winnie is ok after the operation. Luckily my brother told me how big the needle was for microchipping otherwise we might have had it done at the injection stage too! Sarah x
