Hello Everyone

Can I ask a question of all the cooks out there?

I've noticed that every time I bake a cake by the rubbing in method - I suffer for it - for a few days afterwards and can hardly bend my fingers with the arthritis. So I thought I'll have a look round at the mixers.

Well this is where I have come unstuck - really I need a mixer that will not only make cakes by the creaming method but by the rubbing in method and pastry too. So what type of mixer do I need? or what types of attachment do I need?

I've looked at the Kenwood Chef Titanium but at nearly £500 it is a no no (it does have the food processor and the liquidiser with it) but at that price it should be gold plated!

So if you have a Kenwood or other make of mixer and can recommend it - can you tell me please (and preferably one I can get for a lot less that the one above!)

    I make a cake that would be done by the rubbing in method but because I make it with gluten free flour it gets too sticky to do by hand and the result is tough so I make it with a bog-standard electric whisk. It is 4oz marg, 4oz sugar, 8oz flour plus 2 eggs and a little milk and the recipe said "rub fat into flour etc" but I whisk the fat and sugar then adds eggs, a bit of flour, whisk, then rest of flour, bit of milk and its done. Comes out fine.

    I have a Cuisinart food processor and a KitchenAid stand mixer. Bought stalked until they were greatly reduced. As an all rounder I would recommend the food processor.

    Hi Trudie,thank you for following my blog,I can now follow you as I didnt know you was out there.I am very lucky as I have my mums old kenwood chef that she used when we where all children and then passed it to me with lots of attatchments for it when I had my children,it must be 40yrs old and its still in good working order.If anyone is fortunate to be able to purchase one they are well worth it.I have problems with my hands and would not be without it.Hope you get sorted and I so look forward to reading more of your lovely blog.Love Jill xx

      Hi Jill, Thank you and it's very nice to 'meet' up with you too - I'm still looking at the moment at the Kenwoods - I might wait to see if there are any in the sales before and after Xmas
